As always, our conference offers a unique opportunity to gain insights from the latest research, cutting edge techniques and real world examples that translate into actionable clinical decision making and therapeutic strategies.

This conference is designed for practitioners and exercise professionals looking to elevate their expertise to safely and effectively return their patients to their activities and to enhance future performance.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from and engage with leaders in the area of return to play across the health care spectrum.  

Participants will be able to explore emerging trends and exchange ideas in return to play principals and progressions for a variety of musculoskeletal injuries from strains and sprains to concussion and post operative rehabilitation considerations.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES

  • Dr. Stuart Phillips is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and a member of the School of Medicine at McMaster University. He is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Skeletal Muscle Health. Dr. Phillips' work centres on the interaction of exercise/physical activity, aging, and nutrition in skeletal muscle and body composition. Dr. Phillips is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). 

  • PhD CSCS

    Dr. Matt Jordan is a member of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary where he co-leads the Integrative Neuromuscular Sport Performance Lab. He holds a Master of Science in Exercise and Neuromuscular Physiology, and a PhD in Medical Science. He studies neuromuscular adaptations to strength training with a special focus on secondary and tertiary traumatic knee injury prevention. Working at the interface between practice and science, Matt is a specialist in player health and performance. He has consulted with elite athletes over six Olympic Winter Games, and professional sport teams in the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB. He is a 

    frequent presenter at international conferences in the areas of injury prevention, athlete monitoring, training program design for elite athletes, and strength and power testing methodologies.

    David Oh is a Fellow of the RCCSS(C) and practices in Toronto. David is also a clinical instructor and researcher at CMCC and is the research coordinator for the Sports and Exercise Research Collaborative for Health (SERCH). He is also a member of the University Health Network Concussion ECHO Interprofessional Hub Team.

    Andrew Parks is a Fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences and practices in Orillia, Ontario. His practice includes managing those with concussion or other neurological conditions while also continuing to manage various musculoskeletal conditions. He is a published researcher and his interests and approach span the intersection between neuroscience, exercise and musculoskeletal medicine. He remains professionally active in his community, having arranged various educational and workshop-based sessions with local physicians of different specialities to educate them about the importance of evidence-based exercise interventions for neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.

    Ryan is a respected sports Physiotherapist with 16 years of experience in the field.   His education includes a Doctorate, as well as two Post Doctoral fellowships in Sports Medicine with the American Physical Therapy Association and their Sports Physical Therapy Section. He has also completed the highest level Diploma with Sports Physiotherapy Canada. Ryan works with all levels of athletes and specializes in return to play on field physiotherapy.
    Ryan has spent his career covering many roles and teams: Idaho Steelheads (Dallas Stars Affiliate), Idaho Stampede (Denver Nuggest Affiliate), University of British Columbia Thunderbirds, Field Hockey Canada, Swim Canada and Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club. Ryan is currently the Return to Play Specialist for the Canada Soccer Association Mens National team and has attended the last two World Cups (Qatar 2022, Australia & NZ 2023) as a Return to Play Specialist for our Mens and Womens National teams.
    Ryan believes in using evidence-based treatment approaches to treat each patient individually, to help them return to performing in their sport and daily activities pain free.

    Dr. Pignanelli serves as the Lead of the Sport Lab and Research at the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, where he oversees the management of laboratories and the research program. His academic journey includes a PhD and MSc in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences from the University of Guelph, as well as a BSc in Biological Sciences and Biochemistry from the University of Windsor. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jamie Burr during his doctoral studies, Dr.Pignanelli employed an integrative approach to investigate human physiology. His research centered on exercise interventions with and without blood flow restriction, exploring their implications for health, disease management, and sport performance. This expertise now informs his leadership in advancing sport science research at the Institute.

    Dr. Cameron Marshall is the founder of Complete Concussion Management, he is a Doctor of Chiropractic and sports injury specialist who holds a Fellowship through the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences in Canada.
    Dr. Marshall’s primary research and clinic practice focuses on evidence-based treatment and management of concussion and post-concussion syndrome. Dr. Marshall has been a keynote speaker at several leading concussion conferences and continuing education seminars as well as serves as a Board member for Brain Injury Canada, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living with a brain injury and their families/caregivers.

    Dr. Cristina Leonardelli completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree at McMaster University while competing as a member of the varsity soccer team for five years. With her fair share of soccer injuries, she took a keen interest in the role of chiropractic in injury rehabilitation and sport performance. Following her undergraduate degree, Dr. Leonardelli attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and graduated magna cum laude.

    Dr. Leonardelli has completed a post-graduate fellowship program in Chiropractic Sports Sciences through the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences Canada (RCCSS(C)). She has been involved in various levels of sport from the recreational level to the international stage, including as a team chiropractor of the CFL’s Ottawa Redblacks since the 2018 season. She was the lead therapist for Atletico Ottawa of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) during their inaugural season in 2020, and she has worked with Canada Soccer Women’s National Team for the SheBelieves Cup in 2021.

    In Ottawa, she has worked with many local sports organizations, and she has also been involved as part of the core medical team at numerous international and multisport events, including the Toronto Triathlon Festival, Ontario Winter Games, the U19 Women’s World Lacrosse Championships, PanAm Senior Fencing Championships, Ottawa Race Weekend, the FIE GrandPrix de Sabre, and the Canada Summer Games 2022.

    A lifelong learner, Dr. Leonardelli also holds a Masters of Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa with a focus in applied sport psychology. Outside of her chiropractic practice, she works with individual athletes and teams to enhance their mental performance and well-being. She is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) and has worked as the team mental performance coach with Algonquin College Women's Soccer from 2019-2024.

    While she is not in the clinic or working on the sidelines at a sporting event, she spends her time at the gym (she loves a heavy barbell!), gardening, or exploring the outdoors in Ottawa with her family.

    Dr. Duong Nguyen trained at the University of Western Ontario under the mentorship of international leaders in Sports Medicine. He then pursued further subspecialty training and was awarded the Charles S. Neer Sports Medicine Fellowship in Shoulder, Elbow and Knee Surgery from Columbia University / New York Hospital. Dr. Nguyen practiced in North Carolina for several years prior to returning home to Toronto.

    Improving patient care through research is an important part of Dr. Nguyen’s practice. He completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology / Health Research Methodology at McMaster University focusing on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears and optimizing surgical outcomes for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions. Dr. Nguyen  won many international awards including the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA)’s best clinical paper, PAIRO’s best teacher/medical education, & J.C. Kennedy Award for Excellence in Sport Medicine Research for the best paper at the annual OMA SportMed meeting.

    He is triple board Certified by the RCPSC, the CASEM, the ABIME, and the ABOS-Sports. In addition, he is also a Certified Medical Legal Expert (CMLE-ON) by CSME & certified in Catastrophic Impairment (CAT) Evaluation by CSME.

    Dr. Nguyen obtained his Health Law Certification from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2018 & is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) - Subspecialization Health Law at Osgoode Hall Law School.

    In 2007, Dr. Nguyen was recognized as an Emerging Leader of the American Orthopaedic Association by Dr. Louis U. Bigliani. He continues to be actively involved in research, reviewing articles as a member of the editorial board of several academic journals - JAAOS, JSES, Orthopedics, Arthroscopy, & AJSM.

    Dr. Nguyen holds an Assistant Clinical Professor position at the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University & at TMU (Toronto Metropolitan University) School of Medicine. He regularly teaches sports medicine to primary care / sports medicine physicians from McMaster University & TMU. He is also a certified Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor for physicians & surgeons at St-Michael’s Hospital.

  • Kaleb Dahlgren is a widely recognized expert on resilience, leadership, and health. A former elite hockey player and survivor of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy with severe injuries, he has transformed adversity into purpose, inspiring individuals and organizations worldwide. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age four, Kaleb refused to let it define him—fueling a successful hockey career and a lifelong commitment to advocacy.

    As the founder of Dahlgren’s Diabeauties, he empowers young athletes with type 1 diabetes, while serving as a National Ambassador for two diabetes non-profits. His impact extends beyond the diabetes community—his insights on resilience, mindset, and health have reached millions through global media, including CNN, BBC, CBC, TSN, Maclean’s, and The Players’ Tribune.

    Kaleb’s memoir, Crossroads, became a #1 National Bestseller, earning praise from hockey legend Wayne Gretzky as a book that “will change your life for the better.” As an International Keynote Speaker, he has worked with industry leaders such as Google, Rogers, TD, Nestle, the NHL, and the Government of Canada, using his powerful story to inspire transformation.

    Earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in June 2025, Kaleb will be completing his Sports Sciences Specialization Residency, Masters of Science in Sports, Exercise Science, and Medicine with a research focus on elevating and optimizing high-performing individuals. His journey is a testament to grit, passion, and purpose—whether mentoring, speaking, in the community, or providing care, he continues to drive positive change in the lives of others.
